Search Strategies for Books & eBooks

By using the Power Search option of our catalog, you can search for books and ebooks and combine your search terms using the drop down menus on the left.  The two you will most likely use for this project are Words or Phrase (searches for the term in all areas of the record) or Subject.  

  • You can browse the library's collection if you search "Harry Potter" as a word or phrase.  
  • Other examples of searching:
    • Potter, Harry (as Subject - choose from drop down menu on left)
    • Potter, Harry (as Subject) AND magic (as words or phrase)
    • Rowling (as Subject) AND criticism (as words or phrase)
    • Potter (as words or phrase) AND criticism (as words or phrase)
