Information Literacy at Nicholls

Intro to Info Lit Frames

The outcomes developed by the library were done so with an eye towards the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and the definition of an information literate person. It is expected that these outcomes will be applied in courses across campus and in all levels of instruction for the purpose of developing our students' information literacy skills during their academic career at Nicholls State University. It is our aim to make our students responsible users of information and independent life-long learners.

Alumni of Nicholls State University will be able to...

  • determine the extent of their information need.
  • investigate and explain how information is organized for the purpose of understanding how to access it.
  • access the information they need.
  • explain peer review.
  • evaluate information and its sources critically.
  • use information ethically and legally.
  • use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose.
  • determine when help is needed to find the necessary information.
  • analyze their own biases and world view when evaluating scholarly conversation.
  • analyze their own privileges in access to information.
  • analyze barriers to participation in scholarly conversations.
