The Thibodaux Massacre and Lost History: A Primary and Secondary Source Guide

This source guide serves as a learning resource for students and community members researching the Thibodaux Massacre. The Thibodaux Massacre was, until recently, a little-known historical tragedy that occurred in Thibodaux in 1887. The groundbreaking book by John DeSantis, The Thibodaux Massacre: Racial Violence and the 1887 Sugar Cane Labor Strike (2016), has changed public understanding of the event. This book is available as an e-book in this library guide. This resource guide will comprise a compendia of primary and secondary source material available on the event.

Resources are linked on the lefthand navigation, and these sources can help in  finding out how and where to begin looking for answers on the Thibodaux Massacre.

If you need any further assistance, please contact Prof. Andrew Barbier (reference librarian) using the information to the left.  Professor Barbier is  happy to do a research consultation with you via phone, Google Voice, Google Hangouts, or library chat.  Dr. Michael Martin has updated this library guide and is also available for any questions.
