ENGL 366: Course Material and Library Guide on the Thibodaux Massacre

This guide is dedicated to in-house library resources, various publications, and general databases that would help with the Thibodaux Massacre project. This site is designed for use by both Nicholls State students and the wider community.

Discovery Search Box

The databases below range from being local repositories to national ones. Some databases are thematic, while others are grouped according to a shared region or form of media. Try out as many databases as you can, and use the search engine guide (lefthand navigation) to help you with search terms. Note: These specific library electronic resources are accessible through Nicholls State only, though other university libraries may have access. Do check with local libraries for access, too.

Discovery Database

This library link is the equivalent to the "Google of the Library," in that the guide searches the most resources of all our databases. The Discovery Database is the best place to start your searching!

Louisiana State Documents Digital Archive

The primary goal of the Digital Archive is to provide the public with permanent access to digital publications that state agencies submit. Louisiana state documents, print and digital, are cataloged in the online catalog of the State Library and are available for use by all libraries regardless of depository status.

Databases with Scholarly Sources & More

Each of these databases has something to offer about the Thibodaux Massacre or other related historical events, people, and organizations in Louisiana during the late 1800s. And in each one you can find Scholarly or Peer-Reviewed Sources.

Newspaper Databases

Newspaper databases are great because they can give insight into primary texts and differing viewpoints from the day. Although not considered scholarly, Newspapers are irreplaceable sources of knowledge and perspective.
